Adverbal Clause

Pengertian:

Adverbial clause adalah klausa yang berfungsi sebagai adverb (kata keterangan) dalam kalimat, memberikan informasi lebih lanjut tentang kata kerja dalam kalimat utama. Adverbial clause memberikan keterangan tentang waktu, sebab, kondisi, atau tujuan dari tindakan yang dinyatakan dalam kalimat utama.

Struktur:

• Subordinating Conjunction + Subject + Verb + Additional Information

Jenis-Jenis Adverbial Clause:

1. Klausa Waktu (Time Clause):
   Menunjukkan kapan suatu tindakan terjadi.

   • Conjunctions: when, while, before, after, as soon as
   • Contoh: "I will call you when I arrive at the airport."

2. Klausa Sebab (Cause/Reason Clause):
   Menunjukkan alasan atau penyebab tindakan.

   • Conjunctions: because, since, as
   • Contoh: "She went home early because she was feeling sick."

3. Klausa Kondisi (Condition Clause):
   Menunjukkan syarat yang harus dipenuhi agar tindakan dapat terjadi.

   • Conjunctions: if, unless, provided that
   • Contoh: "If it rains, we will stay indoors."

4. Klausa Tujuan (Purpose Clause):
   Menunjukkan tujuan dari tindakan.

   • Conjunctions: so that, in order that
   • Contoh: "He studied hard so that he could pass the exam."

5. Klausa Kontrast (Contrast Clause):
   Menunjukkan perbedaan atau kontrast antara dua ide.

   • Conjunctions: although, though, even though
   • Contoh: "Although it was raining, we went hiking."
