Adjective clauses

 

Pengertian:

Adjective clause (atau relative clause) adalah klausa yang memberikan informasi lebih lanjut tentang sebuah kata benda dalam kalimat. Klausa ini berfungsi seperti sebuah kata sifat yang menjelaskan atau menggambarkan noun (kata benda) lebih detail.

Struktur:

• Relative Pronoun (who, whom, whose, which, that) + Subject + Verb

Contoh Relative Pronouns dan Penggunaannya:

1. Who – digunakan untuk orang (subjek atau objek).
   • Contoh: "The teacher who teaches math is very kind."
2. Whom – digunakan untuk orang (hanya objek).
   • Contoh: "The student whom you met yesterday is my cousin."
3. Whose – digunakan untuk menunjukkan kepemilikan.
   • Contoh: "The woman whose car was stolen reported it to the police."
4. Which – digunakan untuk benda atau hewan (subjek atau objek).
   • Contoh: "The book which is on the table belongs to Sarah."
5. That – digunakan untuk orang, benda, atau hewan (subjek atau objek) dan sering kali digunakan dalam kalimat informal.
   • Contoh: "The house that we bought is very spacious."

Contoh Narasi:

"Last week, Emily visited her aunt’s house. Her aunt, who lives in a beautiful countryside, has a lovely garden. The garden, which is filled with colorful flowers, attracts many butterflies. Emily enjoyed her visit because she found the garden relaxing. She met her cousin, whose name is Lucy, and they spent the afternoon together.
